This is a fantastic workshop for anyone who enjoys colour and would like to learn how to apply it to jewellery. Kiln fired enamelling is an exciting technique where powdered glass is applied to the surface of the metal to create an array of colours and patterns.

Suitable for any level of student, our one-day workshop is self-led, giving you the opportunity to go at your own pace and experiment with colour and texture. You will have access to a vast array of enamel colours, copper blanks and the kiln, plus advice on-hand from our experienced tutor Gwen.

Beginners will be guided through the basics of the technique by making sample pieces, fired to produce different layers of colour, then put these skills into practice by either making a main piece or continuing to experiment. Students might produce a more complex piece, or a number of simpler designs.

If you have tried enamelling before, you will be able to build on your skills under the guidance of your tutor, using stencils and mark making to experiment further with texture and pattern. For many, simply having access to the kiln and materials opens the door to creativity – use the day as you wish!

Pieces made using enamel will need to be joined with cold connections - no soldering can take place after firing. If you would like to saw simple shapes from copper or silver sheet before coming on the course you are welcome to, but we have plenty of copper blank forms for you to use so it is not necessary.
