Cuttlefish Casting Workshop
Cuttlefish Casting Workshop
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Kirsty Richardson
£120 per person (silver additional)
Suitable for any level of student
Cuttlefish casting is an ancient technique, using dried cuttlefish bones to make moulds for casting silver. The technique creates highly textured pieces, an aspect that can be utilised in your design. It can be a wonderfully experimental way to work, creating interesting, organic forms in silver with strongly grained surfaces.
In this course, you will learn how to create a mould using a dried cuttlefish bone. You will be shown various methods for creating different forms, you will experiment with these techniques yourself and learn how to refine your mould and cast molten silver. The whole day will focus on carving and casting your pieces, with the aim of cleaning up and finishing in your own time, although you can choose to do this during the workshop if you wish.
