This one-day course will include an introduction to kiln fired enamel and a chance to experiment with colour and texture. Kiln fired enamel is an exciting technique but is very experimental – applied as powder the results can vary from one piece to the next. A good class for anyone who enjoys colour and would like to learn how to apply it to copper and silver.
The morning will consist of learning the technique by making sample pieces, fired to produce different layers of colour. The afternoon will be a chance to put these skills into practice by either making a main piece or continuing to experiment. Pieces made from enamel will need to be joined with a cold connection (no soldering) so we will take this into consideration when designing a piece that you would like to make. Simple, saw pierced sheet metal works well to add colour to and can be prepared in advance of the class.
